Traces, 2017
For Edgework Nicky Hirst has produced a folder of three prints under the title of Traces. The images are taken from her daily practice of finding photographs in her immediate surroundings. They all depict traces of a previous activity: a dried up puddle which once had blossom petals floating in it, the residue left after removal of taped up posters, and the flow of water damage to wall tiles at a tube station entrance.
The photographs are digitally printed on to 42g Japanese ink jet paper which is natural in colour and PH Neutral. Hirst writes 'The paper is thin and a little translucent like a layer or whisper of what once was. I think the images are about fluidity and change and noticing when ordinary things or moments can look extraordinary.'
