In 2008 Susan Collins installed five network cameras at key coastal vantage points on the South English coast between Margate and Portsmouth. These cameras harvested images of the coastline pixel by pixel over the course of a year and were programmed to transmit one pixel at a time live via the internet.
 
This image of Margate was collected, one pixel at a time, from top to bottom and left to right in horizontal bands continuously, marking endless fluctuations in light that are a characteristic feature of the English coastline and whose ever-changing nature has attracted painters for generations. The whole image was built up of individual pixels collected over a six and a half hour period, approximately the time it takes for the tide to come in or out.
 
Margate is a companion work to Bexhill-on-Sea as part of Seascape, which was commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella and the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea
